The Top 10 Reasons to Eat Like a Caveman

You may have heard of the “Caveman Diet” which refers to eating whole, clean foods that are in their most natural state possible. This would mean foods that you can grow, gather, hunt or fish.

Although the term “Caveman Diet” is catchy, the real terminology to describe eating this way is Paleolithic or “PALEO.”

To summarize the paleo style of eating (It’s not really a diet as much as a commitment to eating healthy,) ‘eating paleo’ means eating healthy foods, without the addition of sugar or grains. (Yes, I know that a lot of people think of grains as being healthy, but in fact they add to a lot of health conditions, food allergies, toxicity and autoimmune diseases. That’s a whole post in and of itself.)

So basically, eating paleo means eating meat, fish, vegetables and fruit. And, occasionally, some low fat dairy for variety or other healthy fats like nuts and seeds.

So why would one want to eat this way, and what good will it do you to make the change?

Top 10 Reasons to Go Paleo:
1. You’ll lose weight and reduce body fat.

2. Your blood sugar will be regulated

3. You’ll have more energy

4. You’ll have clearer, better skin

5. Your mental focus will improve

6. Less insulin production means less stored fat

7. You’ll be less hungry – you can eat more, without gaining weight

8. You’ll be less bloated

9. Reduced inflammation

10.  You’ll feel better, look better, and have an overall feeling of well being.

As you can tell from the Top 10, there are a lot of strong reasons to consider Going Paleo. The main benefit is of course a healthier body and laser-like mental focus. (And the side benefit of weight loss doesn’t stink, either.)

Eat Out and Eat Less!

The trouble with eating out is that you may tend to over eat. And if you go out and you’re super hungry, it can be a double edged sword. I have a few tips for you so that when you do eat out, it won’t be a nutrition disaster.
Before you leave the house, or 15-30 minutes before you get to the restaurant, eat your body weight divided by 10 in grams in protein. Protein triggers the brain faster than any other nutrient that the stomach is full. By the time you arrive at the restaurant your brain already has the “eat less” signal.
For example, I weigh about 125 lbs, so I’ll have 10-12 g of protein before I go into a situation so I’ll be less tempted with foods that aren’t as nutritionally supportive.
This may be something as simple as 8 oz of skim milk, a hard boiled egg, edamame, half a high quality protein bar or a handful of almonds.
Another easy thing to do is to eat something high in fiber and drink water.
My 4 pm trick trick helps me whether I’m eating out or cooking my own dinner.
Physillium is virtually calorie free and it helps you stay regular as it fills you up.
If physillium isn’t for you, try to eat food higher in fiber like berries or an apple with the skin.
You need to eat a minimum of six times a day and maybe you need to have an extra snack before you’re faced with a meal that will sabotage your nutritional program.Your best bet for appetite control would be to have a small amount of protein and fiber in combination.
When you go out, you’ll still be hungry enough to ENJOY the food you love, but you’ll be less likely to over eat.
Try this trick tonight, or whenever you plan to eat out again. It’s very simple and actually quite obvious when you think about it. So while others are getting fatter when they eat out, you’ll stay true to your nutrition plan and on track for your goals.

Another Fitness Tip

As many of you may know I have a body building background. It’s not something that I’d do again, but I enjoyed the preparation for body building contests when I was competing. The day of the show was another story. To me, it seems like such a silly ‘sport’ now.
The best part of the whole process was the fact that I really got to know my body and how it reacts to food and exercise.
My training hasn’t really changed a ton since my bodybuilding days. Well, my cardio has changed because now I do HIIT (high intensity interval training) and back then I did more of the long, slow boring cardio because that was more popular at the time, although now proven to be less effective at fat burning.
The most effective tool I had back then for fat loss was this:
There was no internet or online software programs to log food at that time. A pen and a notebook sufficed. I had a Nutrition Almanac and a food scale.
I logged every morsel of food that went into my mouth (and I logged my workouts too). I weighed and measured everything I ate to the point that I still can eyeball something and be pretty darn close to the calorie count for it.
Now this is pretty meticulous and not the kind of thing that would be a lifelong habit. But, I have to tell you that this was THE BEST way to learn about food. I got to know the calorie and nutrient count of every thing I ate. I had a super clean diet and I made sure I knew all about the foods I ate.
Why am I telling you this?
I DON’T recommend getting ready for a bodybuilding or fitness contest. (I have my opinions about these things now even though I don’t regret my experiences with them then.) But I do recommend you keep a food log or journal. If you make a deal with yourself that you’ll write down everything you eat, you’re more likely to keep your diet clean and on track.
And technology has changed since my bodybuilding days that makes this process a whole lot easier. There are ways to figure out calorie and nutrient count that doesn’t require math (whoop whoop! says the math challenged such as myself!).
I’ve done a lot of research on this online nutrition programming and I’ve come up with a solution for you. Find out more here.

My Shawna 24/7 clients are currently using the software and so far, they’re reporting great results in the two weeks that we’ve been doing the program. One client says, “I’m learning a ton about food!” . Another says. “Did you sense my relief when I saw the nutrition program we’re using?”
Stay tuned for this program that I’ll have available you so that you can get on top of your nutrition. It will make your fat loss efficient and easy. You’ll learn a ton about nutrition and you’ll get a report card for every meal plan to ensure that you’re meeting your nutritional needs.
Sometimes you may think that you’re doing a stellar job on your nutrition and find out otherwise once you start to take a closer look. This program will guide you and give you the info you need to help you meet your goals.
I want to provide everyday solutions for your fitness and fat loss goals. I feel it’s my job to do this for you and I’d be remiss if I knew there were something out there that would help you, but I didn’t make you aware of it.
